| Objective:1.To evaluate the periodontal health condition and the prevalence of hypertension among adults in Guangxi province and to analyze risk factors related to periodontal disease and hypertension.2.To analyze the association between periodontal disease and hypertension by epidemiological survey and to analyze the common risk factors of gingival bleeding, periodontal pocket and hypertension for Guangxi government to make new preventive strategies and policy in common risk factors approach. Methods:This study is an epidemiological survey done on the permanent residents of Guangxi province with stratified-cluster sampling method,by means of periodontal health examination, anthropometric measurement, laboratory testing and questionnaire, during Sept.2013~Jun.2014.2704 subjects were chosen for final study. The study samples are permanent residents over 18 years old, coming from 5 surveillance areas of Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases(NCD)in Guangxi. The status of periodontal health severity and hypertension were examined. All data was analyzed by SPSS.17.0 statistical software.Results:1.Descriptive results2704 subjects were include, with 1108 male cases(40.98%),1596 female cases(59.02%),mean age of 52.22(±14.46)years.954(35.28%)people had gingival bleeding,638(23.59%)had periodontal pocket;850 people had hypertension, the hypertension prevalence rate was 31.43%.2.Risk factors of gingival bleedingSubjects were divided into 5 groups according to the CPI index. The rate of gingival bleeding was related with age, nationality, gender, education level and occupation. The rate among elders was significantly higher than that among young people, yet the rate among male was lower than that among female(P<0.01).Risk factors of non-smokers,high-salt diet and never scaling nationalities were demonstrated to increase the risk of gingival bleeding(P<0.05).3.Risk factors of periodontal pocketAge,gender, low education level and occupation could effect the prevalence of periodontal pocket.Smoking,high-salt diet and hyperglycemia were demonstrated to increase the risk of periodontal pocket(P<0.05)4.Risk factors of hypertensionAge,gender, nationality, education level, occupation and marital status could effect the prevalence of hypertension.Obesity, abdominal obesity, hyperglycemia and high CHOL were risk factors of hypertension(P<0.01).5.The association between periodontal disease and hypertensionGingival bleeding was significantly correlated with DBP(P<0.05),rate ratio was 1.20(95%CI:1.01-1.42).There was no statistical significant relationship between periodontal pocket and hypertension(P>0.05).Conclusions:1.Our study suggests the direct relationship between gingival bleeding and hypertension and prevalence of them were related to age, gender, nationality and occupation.Smoking and high-salt diet are the common risk factors for both diseases.2.There was no statistical significant relationship between periodontal pocket and hypertension.Age,gender, education level and occupation increase the prevalence rate of both diseases.Smoking,high-salt diet and hyperglycemia are the common risk factors for periodontal pocket and hypertension. |
