Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the morphological changes of the hip joint in patients with recurrent patellar dislocation with trochlear dysplasia. Methods: A total of 148 patients with recurrent patellar dislocation and trochlear dysplasia and 150 patients in a randomly selected control group were retrospectively analyzed.Hip joint and knee joint data for all participants were derived from X-ray or CT measurements.9 values, including central edge angle(CEA),acetabulum index angle, femoral neck shaft angle, sharp angle and the depth of the acetabulum, femoral anteversion angle(FAA),anterior acetabular section angle, posterior acetabular section angle, and sulcus angle were measured to identify the differences between controls and patients. The correlation between the sulcus angle in patients and FAA and CEA was analyzed. Results: Compared with the hip joint of patients with normal knee, patients with recurrent patellar dislocation have less capsular acetabulum and are more likely to have acetabular dysplasia. In patients group,CEA(27.68±5.25° vs34.30±3.51°,P<0.001),anterior acetabular section angle(57.14 ±6.17° vs 63.08±7.23°,P<0.001)and posterior acetabular section angle(89.53±6.51° vs 99.63±5.94°,P<0.001)decreased,sharp angle(43.77±3.23° vs 39.28±3.19°,P<0.001),acetabulum index angle(11.52±4.41° vs3.73±2.51°,P<0.001)and FAA(24.68±3.44° vs18.49±3.55°,P<0.001)increased and acetabular depth became shallow(7.05±2.18 mm vs 10.45±1.61 mm,P<0.001).Furthermore,the sulcus angle was correlated with CEA(r=-0.302,P<0.001)and FAA(r=0.212,P=0.022).Conclusions: Recurrent patellar dislocation with trochlear dysplasia may affect the morphology of the hip joint. The developmental disorder of the knee and hip joint should be considered comprehensively during treatment.
