| Objective This experiment collects information of the corpse’s finger epidermal fingerprints(arranged and distributed by epidermal ridges)and dermal surface(that is,the arrangement and distribution of the dermal papillae),to finding the correlation and difference of features information(pattern and minutiae)between epidermal fingerprint and dermal ridge, analyze the feasibility of dermal ridge in the application of forensic personal identification, discuss the influence of gender factors on the minutiae of the epidermis and dermis.Hope to expand the application fields and categories of fingerprints, provide more theoretical foundations for applied research in forensic medicine, criminal technology, individual identification and skin histology. Methods From January 2019 to March 2020,44 Chinese adult corpse fingers were collected that met the requirements, including 22 in the male group and 22 in the female group. The acetic acid is used to method separates the epidermis and dermis of fingers, the fingerprint scanner(SE680,500DPI)collects the image of the epidermal fingerprint and the dermis ridges, and imports the features information into the TPS software to mark the minutiae, then analyze the features data,and,44 individuals were divided into three groups: 10-20(13cases),21-30(20cases)and 31-55(11 cases),based on the number of marked minutiae(the sum of the minutiae of the epidermis and dermis).Under an optical microscope, use Periodic Acid Schiff(PAS)method and basement membrane hexamine silver(PASM)method to determine the separation result of finger epidermis and dermis, and locate the anatomical separation interface, the epidermis was set as the control group, and the dermis was set as the experimental group.Spearman correlation analysis,T test, and Kruskal-Wallis test were used to analyze the correlation and difference of features information between epidermal fingerprints and dermal ridges.Results1.Separation and positioning of epidermis and dermis:Both PAS and PASM staining(under an optical microscope)can visualize the basement membrane in the un-separated skin tissue,as well as the distinct layers of epidermis and dermis, and in dermal tissue, basement membrane can be found on the surface of the papillary layer, while in epidermal tissue no basement membrane or dermal components can been seen.2.Correlation analysis between epidermal fingerprints and dermal ridges:(1)The fingerprint triangle and central system in the epidermis and dermis, that is the pattern(whorl pattern, loop pattern, and arch pattern)are highly consistent;(2)In 44 cases of individual, the total number of minutiae of between the epidermis and the dermis has a strong correlation(Spearman correlation analysis r=0.954,P<0.0001);(3)The coincidence rate and difference rate of minutiae between the epidermis and dermis are 65.0±20.0% and 35.0±20.0%.(4)The matching rates of minutiae among the three groups of 10-20,21-30,and31-55 were 73.1%,72.8%,and 77.8%,respectively,and there was no significant difference(Kruskal-Wallis test,P=0.659).(5)The coincidence rate of minutiae between the male group and the female group shows a difference(T test,t=2.224,P=0.032).Conclusions1.The acetic acid method can separate the epidermis and dermis of finger at the basement membrane. Both PAS and PASM staining methods can show the basement membrane of finger skin, the PAS staining method has better staining effects.2.Finger dermal ridges can be used for individual identification of Chinese adults and the restoration of finger epidermal lines;when identifying individuals through dermal ridges, the bifurcation feature and junctions feature are of greater significance, and female individuals be easier to identify. |
