Objective:The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of botulinum toxin A on the prevention of pathological scar after maxillofacial and neck surgery. Methods:Patients admitted to the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from December 2019 to December 2020 were selected as the research subjects.According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, patients were randomly divided into the Botox group(n=15),the silicone group(n=15)and the control group(n=15)according to the order of treatment and their intention.Botulinum toxin group was injected with type A botulinum toxin along both sides of the incision after cosmetic suture.Silicone dressing group was given silicone dressing for external use for at least 3 months; The control group received no special treatment except routine nursing after cosmetic suture. The patients were followed up 30 days,90 days and180 days after surgery, respectively.Visual Analog Scale(VAS)and Vancouver Scar Scale(VSS)were used to evaluate the postoperative Scar status of the three groups. The data recorded after follow-up were analyzed by the latest special statistical software. Results: According to statistical analysis, there was no difference in weight, age, gender, disease and other general information of subjects in this experiment, which was not statistically significant(P >0.05),which is comparable. After half a year, the total scar VSS scores and VAS scores of the three groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion: Early injection of botulinum toxin on both sides of postoperative incision can effectively prevent scar hyperplasia.Botox injection has few side effects, obvious curative effect, minimally invasive, convenient and so on.It is worthy of clinical promotion and application.
