Based on the 2014 clhls data,this paper selects the elderly’s health indicators such as self-rated health,activities of daily living,instrumental activities of daily living,positive emotions,negative emotions,life satisfaction as the dependent variables,and social participation indicators of the elderly in 2011 as the independent variables to reduce the endogenous problems among variables.Mainly through the OLS and Order Logit model,this paper analyzes the influence of social participation of the elderly on their physical and mental health and its dimensions from the perspective of urban-rural differences,and explores the regulatory effect of living style on the relationship between social participation and physical and mental health of the elderly.The empirical results show that: social participation has a significant positive impact on the physical and mental health of the elderly in urban and rural areas in China.The more social activities are involved,the better the elderly are in self-assessment health,ability of daily life activities,instrumental ability of daily life activities,positive emotions,negative emotions and life satisfaction.The conclusion of the study echoes the viewpoint of activity theory.At the same time,the interaction effect found that the way of living had a moderating effect on the relationship between social participation and elderly health.The specific effects are as follows:compared with the elderly living with their families,living alone will reduce the impact of social participation on ADL and IADL of the elderly;living alone does not affect the relationship between social participation and self-rated health,positive emotions and negative emotions of the elderly.Compared with living with family,living in a nursing home will enhance the impact of the relationship between social participation and the health of the elderly.The differences between the urban and rural samples of the adjustment effect of living style are as follows: compared with living with family,living alone will enhance the impact of social participation on the life satisfaction of the rural elderly;the impact of living in a nursing home on the relationship between social participation and self-rated health only works for the rural elderly;living in a nursing home will enhance the impact of social participation on the IADL of the urban elderly,and living in a nursing home will weaken Social participation in the impact of rural elderly negative emotions.In addition,this paper also found that gender,age,education level,marital status,economic status,adequate sources of life,annual routine physical examination,family ownership,region and other variables have an impact on the health of the elderly.Finally,on the basis of the research conclusion,the paper puts forward the policy suggestions to promote social participation and improve the physical and mental health of the elderly from the fouraspects of government,community,family and individual.
