With the rapid development of portable/flexible smart electronics, the implantable and wearable systems and devices have attracted worldwide research attentions for their potential applications. These approaches, such as electronic-skins(e-skin),can establish the body-interface to realize "the body electric",applied on illness/health monitoring, sensation enhancing, artificial robots and bionic limb. The novel e-skins aim to transform the traditional healthcare mode and are designed to mimic the human sensory systems by advanced technology. The senses are the main channels to acquire information through the outside world, which include the optesthesia of the eyes, the auditory sense of the ears, the gustation of the mouth, the olfactory epithelium of the nose and the tactile sense of the skin for human beings. In our previous work,a novel smelling e-skin for mimicking the olfactory epithelium has been reported.Gustation is one of the human basic physiological senses, used for recognition of the nature of diet, regulation of appetite, and control of food intake. There is a huge amount of taste buds on the surface of the tongue, which can transfer the physical and chemical stimulation of the taste buds to gustation center of the brain. There are four basic taste:sweet, sour, bitter and salty, and all the taste is mixed by these four taste. For realizing the concept of e-skins,it will play a key role in the future.Tongue surface of human being distributed with numerous soft taste bud cells which could recognize the taste. In order to simulate people taste sensing mechanism more precisely, the taste electronic skin implanted in the human body or pasted on the surface should have three characteristics:flexible structure, taste recognition ability and large scale integration. So in this paper,we designed a model based on piezoelectricenzymatic reaction coupling since the feed system of biological taste electronic skin, which can sense sour and bitter taste, and applied reagent testing to some common fruits in daily life.Specific contents as follows:(1)Through simple techniques,we already developed a self-powered gustation electronic-skin successfully, which based on piezoelectric-enzymatic-reaction.Firstly,ZnO nanowires have been prepared via hydrothermal process. Then, relying on some related technical support, such as transfer-printing,phototoetching and electronic beam evaporation,we photoetched the interdigital electrode on the ends of ZnO nanowires. Finally, modifying the bioenzyme enzyme on the surface of ZnO nano wires and achieve the self-powered gustation electronic-skin.(2)The new type of self-powered e-skin couples the piezoelectric effect with the enzyme reaction, abandons the intervention of the external power supply, reduces the size of the device, and exhibit the great sensing performance under different conditions. When the concentration of ascorbic acid in the solution increases from 0 M/L to 2 × 10-2 M/L,the piezoelectric output of the acid sensing unit is reduced from 18.04 mV to 6.64 mV.The response increased from 0 to 171.747;when the volume fraction of ethanol in the solution grew from 0%to 50%,the piezoelectric output of the bitterness sensing unit decreased from 20.68 mV to 14.18 mV,and the piezoelectric response of the bitterness sensing unit raised from 0 to 45.867.(3)A practical application of the self-powered e-skin for detecting the AA concentration of five fruits without any external electricity power source has been demonstrated. It can be seen that the measured results are according with the AA concentration in these fruits. In the future, this development of self-powered multifunctional e-skin could have potential applications in body-electric interfaces and robots.
