In recent years,with the gradual improvement of China’s medical level,the increase of national average life expectancy,the aggravation of population aging,and the rapid growth of cancer incidence and mortality,cancer has become one of the important factors threatening the life safety of Chinese residents.The increasing incidence of cancer and the younger age of the onset of the trend,has produced a large number of patients who living with cancer.Due to the uneven distribution of medical resources between regions,cancer patients often need to seek treatment across provinces or regions.However,under the current medical technology,due to the extremely low cure rate and extremely high mortality rate,cancer has the characteristics of long treatment cycle,difficult treatment and high treatment cost,which makes patients who are under the long-distance medical treatment trapped in mental and physical difficulties.In this paper,xi ’an X hospital was taken to conduct a fieldwork on the experience,difficulties and solutions of the cancer patients in the process of seeking treatment across regions.From the perspective of patient subjectivity,through narrative medicine,ethnography was written on the cancer patients’ experience of seeking treatment across regions to form the narrative of illness of patients and their families long-distance medical treatment,so as to analyze the personal and social significance of illness to patients.In this paper,the long-distance medical treatment process of cancer patients is divided into three stages:stripping,remodeling and regression.In each stage,patients and their families need to deal with different dilemmas brought by the illness,and the personal and social significance of the illness is generated.In a personal sense,the illness interrupted the patients’ lives and changed their social relationships.In a social sense,the illness leads to the stigmatization of cancer patients and medical insurance discrimination. |
