Objective Black ginseng and black garlic are new products made from ginseng and garlic,both of which have higher nutritional value and are widely concerned.The incidence of liver disease is always high and cannot be ignored.In this paper,I investigate the protective effects of black ginseng and aged black garlic extracts on liver injury mice induced by a high-fat diet.Methods Seventy C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into normal diet group(ND),high-fat diet group(HFD),black ginseng extract group((HFD+BGE)150mg/kg),and aged black garlic extract group((HFD+AGE)150mg/kg),black ginseng and garlic mixed low dose group((HFD+BGE+AGE)100mg/kg),medium dose group((HFD+BGE+AGE)150mg/kg),high dose group((HFD+BGE+AGE)200mg/kg).After 4 weeks,the activities of AST,ALT,SOD,GSH-Px and T-AOC,the contents of TC,TG,HDL-C,LDL-C,MDA,IL-6 and TNF-α in the mice were measured,and HE staining of liver tissue was performed to observe pathological morphological changes.Results(HFD+BGE+AGE)200mg/kg group showed lipid lowering effects owing to lower tendencies TG,CHOL,HDL-C and LDL-C and higher tendencies HDL-C as compared to HFD group.High fat diet induced the increases in marker enzymes for liver function(ALT and AST)while nutritional interventions(HFD+BGE+AGE)200mg/kg led to marked decreases in these liver enzymes and improved the live function by ameliorating damaging effects of liver injury.The results showed that(HFD+BGE+AGE)200mg/kg group could increase the activity of SOD,GSH-Px and T-AOC,decrease the content of MDA,TNF-α and IL-6,which indicated that(HFD+BGE+AGE)200mg/kg group could improve the immune ability of liver injury mice.HE staining showed that no lipid droplets were observed in the liver tissue of mice in the ND group,and lipid droplets appeared in the HFD group,(HFD+BGE+AGE)200mg/kg group can significantly improve follicular steatosis,significantly reduce fat accumulation,neatly arranged liver cells,and close to normal group.Conclusion black ginseng,black garlic extract and their mixture have better protective effect on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.The mechanism may be related to reducing lipid peroxidation damage,improving lipid metabolism and inflammatory response.
