Study On The Correlation Between Constitution Of Traditional Chinese Medicine And Depression

Objective: This study mainly analyzed the type of Chinese medicine constitution in patients with depression,and the correlation between the type of Chinese medicine constitution and the total score of Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD)and the seven factors classified.Therefore,the relationship between Chinese medicine constitution and the incidence and clinical symptoms of depression was discussed.Methods:160 depressive patients who met the inclusion criteria were collected clinically.The constitution of depressive patients was summarized by TCM constitution classification and judgment table.At the same time,the Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD)was used to evaluate the constitution of depressive patients.The specific scores and total scores of each item of HAMD were recorded.The descriptive statistics of the patients’ gender,age and education level were made,and the middle of different gender and age were made.Chi-square test was carried out on the distribution of medical constitution.The correlation between constitution type and total score of HAMD and seven factors was analyzed.Results:1.The main constitutional types of depressive patients are Qi-depression and Qi-deficiency.The proportion of Qi-depression is as high as 25.6%,followed by Qi-deficiency,accounting for 20.6%.2.Comparisons of sex,age and education level in depression: women accounted for 69.4%;30.6%higher than men;young patients accounted for 61.9%,higher than 26.8% ofmiddle-aged patients and 11.3% of elderly patients;lower education accounted for 41.2%,higher than 28.8% of secondary education and 30% of higher education.3.Comparing the distribution of TCM constitution of different sex and age: female constitution has the most Qi depression,accounting for 21.3%(P < 0.05);young patients are mainly Qi depression,middle-aged patients are mainly Qi depression and Qi deficiency,and elderly patients are mainly Qi deficiency(P < 0.05);4.The correlation between different constitution types and total score of HAMD is peaceful: There was a significant negative correlation between quality and total score of HAMD(P < 0.05),and there was a significant positive correlation between qi-depression temperament and total score of HAMD(P < 0.05).5.Statistical correlation between constitution type and seven factors showed that there was a negative correlation between calm temperament and retardation factor(P < 0.05).There was a positive correlation between qi-depression temperament and retardation factor and cognitive factor(P < 0.05),and between Yang-deficiency temperament and body weight factor(P < 0.05).There was a positive correlation between factors of concern(P < 0.05),phlegm-dampness and damp-heat with factors of day and night,sleep(P < 0.05),and blood stasis with factors of despair(P < 0.05).Conclusion:Qi-depression and Qi-deficiency are the main constitutional types of depression patients.Qi-depression is the susceptible constitution of depression,and calm constitution is the protective constitution of depression.Different constitutional types are related to the onset and clinical symptoms of depression,and should be intervened and regulated as soon as possible.
