A Cross-sectional Study On The Relationship Between Allium Intake And Hyperuricemia In A Population In Northeast China

Objective: Allium plants mainly include leek,onion,shallot and garlic,which are a beneficial food source of anti-cancer,anti-inflammatory,anti-oxidation to human body.At present,there are few studies on the relationship between the intake of these four Allium species and hyperuricemia based on population.Based on the big data of a natural population cohort survey in Northeast China,this study explored the relationship between the intake frequency of four Allium species and hyperuricemia,so as to provide dietary basis for public health intervention in Northeast China.Method: As a cross-sectional study,the subjects of this study were adults aged above18 years and below 79 years from the Natural Population Cohort Study in Northeast China from September 2019 to October 2020.The basic information,physical parameters and blood biochemical parameters of the study population were obtained by physical examination,questionnaire and physiological and biochemical examination.The dietary information was collected by food frequency questionnaire,and the international common diagnostic standard was adopted as the diagnostic standard of hyperuricemia.The difference in baseline characteristics between the hyperuricemia group and the non-hyperuricemia group was analyzed by t-test,χ2 test and analysis of variance test.Multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the association between the intake frequency of leek,onion,onion and garlic and hyperuricemia.The correlation between the intake frequency of leek,onion,onion and garlic and hyperuricemia in males and females was analyzed by stratified analysis based on gender and multivariate logistic regression model.The quantile of frequency was included into the model as an ordinal variable to test the p for trend.Result: Total of 14,795 participants were included in this study,including 4,933 male participants,accounting for 33.34% of the total,and 9,862 female participants,accounting for 66.64%.Total of 2,381 participants had hyperuricemia,with a prevalence of 16.09%.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that there was no statistical significance between the increased intake frequency of leek,onion and garlic and the risk of hyperuricemia(p > 0.05).Multivariate logistic regression analysis after adjusting for age,sex,ethnicity,BMI,education level,household income,smoking,alcohol consumption,coffee consumption,and total energy showed that the incidence of hyperuricemia decreased with the increase of onion consumption frequency.The OR(95%CI)of the highest versus lowest intake frequency was 0.80(0.65,0.98).Based on gender classification standard,the adjustment for age,nationality,BMI,cultural degree,family income,smoking,drinking alcohol,coffee,and the total energy after multivariate logistic regression analysis results showed that women with onion intake frequency increase will reduce the incidence of high blood uric acid,its highest intake compared with the lowest intake frequency,the OR(95% CI)was 0.67(0.51,0.89).However in men,the incidence of hyperuricemia was decreased with the increase of onion intake frequency,and the OR(95%)of the highest intake frequency was 0.73(0.60,0.88)compared with the lowest intake frequency.There was no statistical significance between the increasing intake frequency of leek and garlic and hyperuricemia(p > 0.05).Conclusion: The results of this cross-sectional study show that the frequency of onion intake in females may be related to the reduced prevalence of hyperuricemia,the frequency of onion intake in males may be related to the reduced prevalence of hyperuricemia,and chives and garlic may not be related to hyperuricemia.The above results still need to be verified by further studies.
