Research On The Reports Of Depression In China Youth Daily From The Perspective Of Social Support(2000-2020)

Depression is the main factor that causes the overall burden of global diseases.According to the data of WHO,the absence,medical expenses and funeral expenses caused by depression in China cause a loss of 7.8 billion US dollars every year.Although there are effective treatment methods for depression,but due to the lack of medical resources and social discrimination against mental patients,less than half of the patients with depression in the world receive effective treatment.As the main provider of information resources,mass media plays a very important role in the health communication of depression.The popularization of depression knowledge by media affects the willingness of patients with depression and the public’s views on depression.Social support is the sum of spiritual and material help that people get from all aspects of society.Based on the theory of social support,this paper analyzes the content of the reports on depression in China Youth Daily from 2000 to 2020 from the perspective of journalism and communication.The category framework is divided into the number of reports,the report genre,the tone of the report,the theme of the report,and the type of social support and the source of social support reflected in the content of the report.The study found that the communication characteristics of social support on depression issues in China Youth Daily showed an increasing trend in the number of reports,the reporting genre of social support was basically based on correspondence,and the tone of the report on social support content is mainly neutral,the topics of social support reports on depression topics are mainly current situation reports,case reports and preventive and therapeutic measures.In the analysis of the social support communication framework,it is found that reports mainly use informational support to express social support.Informational support occupies a leading position in the three themes of current situation problem reports,preventive treatment measures,and basic knowledge popularization.Informational support is mainly provided by three types of social support sources:educational institution,medical institutions,and other individual support.In the formal social support system,educational institutions are the main source of informational support and network support,the government is the main source of tangible support,and other individual support of informal social support system becomes the main source of emotional support and esteem support.But on the whole,China Youth Daily’s coverage of depression issues failed to give full play to the role of emotional support and tangible support,as well as lack of esteem support and network support.Based on the above analysis of the social support communication characteristics and communication framework of the depression topic in China Youth Daily,this paper puts forward the Enlightenment of enhancing the knowledge popularization role of informational support,attaching importance to emotional support and esteem support,giving play to the group belonging role of network support,focusing on the instrumental support role of tangible support,and reasonably using the source system of social support.When reporting depression topics,we should pay attention to the role of social support system construction,so as to improve the social support level of depression related groups.
