ObjectiveFrom the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine constitutions theory, this research analyses the correlation between the knee joint function recovery of patients with primary knee osteoarthritis after total knee arthroplasty and different Traditional Chinese Medicine constitution.MethodPatients who meet the inclusion criteria and underwent total knee arthroplasty from June 2020 to December 2020 in the Department of Knee Arthrology,Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine were selected. The "Classification and Judgment of Chinese Medical Constitution" was used to judge the constitution of the patients. For patients with biased constitutions, the highest score is taken as the constitution of the patient. Each patient received the same surgical procedure and treatment plan with the same qualifications. The KSS score,VAS pain score during knee flexion and extension, knee joint range of motion and knee joint circumference were recorded before surgery,1 week and 1 month after surgery.Using SPSS23.0 software to statistically analyze the data, the statistics has passed the statistical audit certificate of the graduate thesis of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine.ResultAmong the 116 patients included,29 were Pinghe quality(accounting for 25%),87 cases were of biased quality(accounting for 75%),and there were no Tebing quality. There was no significant difference in age, preoperative KSS score,VAS pain score during knee flexion and extension, knee range of motion, and knee circumference among patients of various constitutions(P>0.05).At 1 week follow-up,there was a statistically significant difference in the KSS clinical scores of patients between Pinghe quality group and Xueyu quality group(P<0.05),the KSS clinical scores of Pinghe quality group were better than those with Xueyu quality group at 1 week follow-up after surgery, there was no statistically significant difference in terms of KSS function score,VAS pain score during knee flexion and extension, knee range of motion and knee circumference increase(P>0.05).At the 1-month follow-up,there was a statistically significant difference in the range of motion of the knee joint between Pinghe quality group and Tanshi quality group(P<0.05),the range of motion of the knee joint in patients with mild-dampness was better than that of patients with phlegm-dampness,the knee range of motion of Pinghe quality group shows better than that of Tanshi quality group, there was no significant difference in the KSS clinical and functional scores, the VAS pain score during knee flexion and extension, and the increase in knee circumference among patients of different constitution(P<0.05).Meanwhile,at 1-week and 1-month follow-up,it was found that the VAS pain scores during knee flexion and extension in Xueyu quality group were higher than those of other groups.ConclusionPatients with primary knee osteoarthritis with Xueyu quality and Tanshi quality have a relatively poor recovery after undergoing total knee arthroplasty than Pinghe quality, which is shown in the KSS clinical score and knee joint range of motion. These results provide a certain research basis for further exploring the application of traditional Chinese medicine to improve knee function recovery after total knee arthroplasty.
