Constipation predominant irritable bowel syndrome(IBS-C)and Functional constipation(FC)are two complicate clinical conditions which are difficult to be distinguished.The Rome criteria create mutual distinguish standard for IBS-C and FC,based on the presence of abdominal pain,which is a defining criterion for IBS.In the present review,we overviewed a large number of studies on the definition,etiology,clinical symptoms,pathophysiology,medical treatment and efficacy of IBS-C/FC.These studies suggest the high similarity and transformation between the two clinical conditions.According to the review,we can conclude that in the clinical condition,most IBS-C and FC are different stages of a same disease.
