| Organoids derive from pluripotent stem cells and adult stem cells/progenitor cells whose differentiation and self-assembly are in vitro and supported by the typical matrigel through 3D cell culture technology, and form human-like organs with relevant microscopic structure and physiological function finally. It’s quite new in stem cell research, and its purpose is to replicate human organs, facilitate physiological and pathological research in vitro and clinical organ transplantation.Organoids research has important medical value in physiological and pathological mechanism exploration, regenerative medicine, personalized medicine and drug development:they are better models in vitro to reveal the physiological and pathological characteristics of organs in vivo;provide more informative data on clinical trials of drugs;reduce the risk of human trials;replace defective organs to perform normal physiological functions in the field of organ transplantation appear to be promising. At the same time, the study of organoids faces a series of ethical controversies, different organoids have different ethical controversies, which need to be discussed differently:brain organoid with the risk of consciousness building is in great controversy;gastruloid and embryo share similar ethics concerns because they are alike;organoids using for chimeras will lead to the thinking of animal ethics, chimera risks and benefits, and their own moral status. With the increasingly extensive research on organoids, the organoid biobank emerges at the right moment, and it is increasingly urgent to formulate countermeasures for such issues as informed consent of donors, personal information protection,risk-benefit,and benefit sharing. The essay analyzes and demonstrates the rationality and shortcomings of ethical concerns in organoid research above, and put forward that it is necessary to follow the four principles of respect,beneficence,non-maleficence and righteousness to formulate ethical norms for organoid research.Among these, respect should assure adequate informed consent of human tissue donors/clinical trial subjects;beneficence requires that the research should meet human interests as the ultimate standard;no maleficence is the bottom line principle of organoid research and application;righteousness requires the equality of interest distribution and risk sharing in organoid research and application. Therefore, basing on the basic principles of ethics, this essay aims to stabilize the rudder of ethical principles, guide the research and application of organoids, and resolve the conflict between organoid technology and ethical value and norm, puts forward some suggestions for better ethical governance. |
