A Study On The Influencing Factors Of Hunan Pig Small-scale Farmers’ Willingness To Expand Scale

Hunan Province is a large pig breeding Province in China,and its pig breeding industry is one of the important agricultural pillar industries in the province.In recent years,a large number of scattered farmers withdraw from pig breeding,and large-scale pig breeding in Hunan Province develops rapidly.However,the proportion of small pig farms in Hunan Province is still high,and the overall scale level is low.According to China animal husbandry and veterinary Yearbook 2018,in 2017,the number of small-scale farmers in Hunan Province was 217900,accounting for 89.92% of large-scale farmers.Therefore,to encourage and guide the healthy development of small-scale pig farmers has become an important measure to further promote the standardization of large-scale pig breeding in Hunan Province.In this context,in-depth study of the influencing factors of the willingness of small-scale pig farmers to expand scale in Hunan Province is of certain significance for the improvement of the scale of pig breeding in Hunan Province,and also can provide some reference for the improvement of the subsequent relevant policy documents.In this paper,by reading and combing the relevant professional theoretical books and literature of pig large-scale breeding,firstly,the concept of the research objectives is defined;and the theory of scale economy,social identity,farmers’ behavior selection is introduced,combined with the actual research,the development of pig farmers in Hunan Province and their willingness to expand the scale are described;then,from resource constraints,social identity,individual characteristics,respectively Then,using the survey data of 194small-scale pig farmers in Ningxiang city(Hunan Province)and structural equation model for empirical analysis.It is found that resource constraints are the most critical factors that positively affect the willingness of small-scale pig farmers to expand scale;social identity is an important factor that positively affects the willingness of small-scale pig farmers to expand scale;individual characteristics are another important factor that positively affects the willingness of small-scale pig farmers to expand scale.Finally,based on the analysis of empirical results,the paper puts forward some policy suggestions to enhance the willingness of small-scale pig farmers to expand their scale.
