As a kind of high-quality forage, alfalfa is often limited by soil conditions during its cultivation process.Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF)are plant symbiotic fungi that can help plants absorb nutrients, promote growth and resist stress. At present, there are few studies on the effects of different AMF(interspecies and intraspecies)on alfalfa resistance to stress. In this study, four strains of Glomus mosseae(G.m)and G.etunicatum(G.e)were inoculated on alfalfa by potting in greenhouse under drought, high salinity and low nitrogen condition, respectively, which aimed to evaluate the effects of AMF on alfalfa against different stresses and provide references for screening the AMF strains that is highly symbiotic with alfalfa under stress conditions. The main results are as follows:1.Effects of AMF on drought tolerance of alfalfaCompared with the control, the effects of different AMF strains were significant on the alfalfa biomass after drought treatment. The G.e XJ04B performed best to promote the alfalfa biomass. The AMF inoculation promoted the absorption of nitrogen and phosphorus by alfalfa under drought conditions. There was significant difference on the growth, nitrogen and phosphorus uptake of alfalfa among the intraspecific AMF but not interspecific AMF.The infection rate of alfalfa showed significant differences among intraspecific and interspecific AMF.Overall, intraspecific differences of AMF were greater than interspecific AMF.2.Effects of AMF on salt tolerance of alfalfaCompared with the control, the effects of different AMF strains were significant on the alfalfa biomass after high-salt treatment. The G.e XJ04B performed best to promote the alfalfa biomass. The AMF inoculation promoted the absorption of nitrogen and phosphorus by alfalfa under high-salt conditions. There was significant difference on the alfalfa growth and infection rate of AMF among the intraspecific AMF but not the interspecific AMF.The nitrogen and phosphorus uptake of alfalfa showed significant differences among intraspecific and interspecific AMF.Overall, intraspecific differences of AMF were greater than interspecific AMF.3.Effects of AMF on low nitrogen tolerance of alfalfaCompared with the control, the effects of different AMF strains were significant on the alfalfa biomass after low nitrogen treatment. The G.m HUN03B preformed best on the alfalfa biomass. The AMF inoculation increased the absorption of nitrogen and phosphorus by alfalfa under low nitrogen conditions. There was significant difference on biomass and nitrogen uptake of alfalfa among the intraspecific AMF but not interspecific AMF.The phosphorus uptake of alfalfa and mycorrhizal infection of AMF showed significant differences among intraspecific and interspecific AMF.Overall, intraspecific differences of AMF were greater than interspecific AMF.
