Study On Jiangxi Provincial Veterinary College

Since the end of the 19th century,with the invasion of western countries to our country and the big social changes,China was severely affected until the beginning of the last century.During this period,China entered the semi colonial and semi feudal society from the feudal society.Imperialism and bureaucratic capitalism have plunged the unhappy people into an abyss of suffering.Western capitalism also brought Western trends of thought.Western modern agricultural science and technology began to spread in China.China’s traditional agricultural technology has been challenged by the West for thousands of years.At the same time,modern patriots advocate learning western scientific knowledge,and modern veterinary education and veterinary technology are also deeply influenced by the Western.The veterinary college established in Jiangxi Province--Jiangxi Provincial Veterinary College was absolutely unprecedented.In November 1938,Jiangxi Provincial Veterinary College was officially established in Ji’an City,Jiangxi Province,which also faced many challenges at that time.Before that,the school was formerly the veterinary training institute of Jiangxi Agricultural University.The Institute began in May 1936 as a veterinary training center of Jiangxi Agricultural University when it was in a turbulent time and the Japanese invaded China.Since its establishment,Jiangxi Provincial Veterinary College has moved six times and changed eight places.During the relocation,the school equipments,books and instruments have been damaged a lot.Until 1952,colleges and universities across the country had made major adjustments.The Higher Education Bureau of Central South District issued an instruction:to merge Jiangxi Provincial Veterinary College and Nanchang University Agricultural College,so a new Jiangxi Agricultural College was established.Jiangxi Provincial Veterinary College is the only veterinary college in Jiangxi Province,which is famous all over the country.Professor Wang Zhichuan,a famous veterinarian,contributes to the establishment of the school.Professor Wang also personally teaches courses to students.He pays attention to the practice and learning of students.During the extremely difficult period,he has extensively searched,collected and purchased equipments,and set up two laboratories and a veterinary hospital.According to the domestic situation,the school has excellent and comprehensive teaching plans and curriculums.During the 14 years from 1938 to 1952,the school offered three-year program with 13 sessions;five-year program with 4 sessions.The students enrolled in the three-year program are senior high school graduates;the students enrolled in the five-year program are junior high school graduates.The school has trained about 280 graduates and many excellent veterinary professionals for the country.Jiangxi Provincial Veterinary College not only stands out in the field of veterinary education,but also has spread veterinary scientific knowledge to the outside.According to the actual situation of veterinary education in China,the school has compiled influential professional teaching textbooks with reference to foreign advanced theories,which has promoted the continuous development of veterinary education and trained famous veterinary professionals at home and abroad.It plays an important role in the veterinary profession in Jiangxi and even the whole country.This paper takes Jiangxi Provincial Veterinary College as a case study.The author insists on the guidance of dialectical materialism and historical materialism,and strives to combine theory with demonstration.By consulting historical materials,archives and analyzing statistical data,the author also studies the origin,changes and development of the school,as well as its organizational setup,teaching staff,teaching development and personnel training,etc.from the perspective of educational history,and then summarizes the characteristics of the school,and draws experiences and lessons,which has achieved the effect of learning from the past as a reference for today.
