To investigate the clinical effect and feasibility of a modified simple external fixator for closed tibial shaft fracture in dogsUp to now,the treatment of limb long bone fracture of small animals in China is still dominated by internal fixation. However, there are many disadvantages of internal fixation itself, such as long operation time, large wound, large blood flow, long fracture healing time, slow recovery, high infection rate, the need for a second operation and high operation costs. Therefore,in order to provide better fracture treatment methods for small animals,it can be corrected at the same time to restore its limb function.A modified simple external fixator was designed to replace the internal fixator and the traditional external fixator for the treatment of closed tibial shaft fractures in dogs. The traditional external fixing bracket consists of three parts:fixing needle, connecting rod and fixing frame. And the simple external fixator is to connect the rod and the part of the fixer into one,the simple use of intramedullary needle for connection and fixation. In this experiment, the design features of simple external fixation bracket were continued, and the needle channel was improved by adding a longitudinal force(intramedullary needle)and reducing two lateral forces(intramedullary needle). The original "eye" type bracket structure into a "middle" type. The experiment proves that the fixation effect is remarkable and the dressing effect is more beautiful. The model of transverse tibial diaphyseal fracture was established in 2 healthy experimental dogs, and then the modified simple external fixator was used for surgical treatment. Finally, the feasibility of this method was evaluated by X-ray,blood routine and biochemical indexes. And this method was carried out in our animal hospital(wi th the consent of the animal owners)for clinical trials. From February 2019 to February 2020,a total of 11 cases were treated with the modified simple external fixator. In this study,a retrospective analysis was performed to identify the feasibility and clinical value of modified simple external fixation stent in tibial fracture surgery. The operation of the modified simple external fixator was simple and easy to operate. The experimental dogs and 11 clinical cases of fracture finally achieved bone healing without osteomyelitis after treatment. All the modified simple external fixators were removed in our hospital without any displacement or deformation. After the removal, there was no further fracture. There were no complications in the experimental dogs, and only one of the 11 clinical cases showed mild infection in the pinhole. After treatment with anti-inflammatory antibiotics, the situation was resolved, and the fracture healing was not affected in the end.By the same johner-wruhs professional scoring standard, the experimental dogs and the 11 infected animals were rated as excellent.
