Polymer gel is widely used as a plugging agent to reduce water production.Previously, the conventional polymer gel is extensively used for the blockage of thief zones, but the performance of conventional polymer gel is not satisfactory in high salinity and high temperature conditions because of rapid syneresis and thermal degradation. The amphiphilic polymer is taking much attention for polymer gel formulation because they are more salt resistant in low concentration as compared to high concentration conventional HPAM polymer. In this study amphiphilic polymer/organic Cr3+gel is formulated with the low or negligible percentage of syneresis. The Bottle test method, rheometer, breakthrough vacuum pump, and sand pack tubes were used to measure the gelation time, gelation code, syneresis percentage, viscoelastic properties, gel strength, plugging behavior and breakthrough pressure of amphiphilic polymer gel.The formulated gel is evaluated in term of bulk stability, effects of polymer and crosslinker concentration, salinity, temperature,p H,on the gelation time and gel strength. The plugging rate, gel washing resistance were analyzed and the gelling mechanism was purposed. The results showed that 3000 mg/L AP-P4,0.3 wt% organic Cr3+was found to be optimum concentration with low syneresis, has gelling time of 4 hours, gelling code F,with gel strength of 0.037 MPa,and bulk stability of 91%after 80 days under high salinity(Na Cl)80,000 mg/L and high temperature 85?C.The gel strength and viscoelastic properties were increased with the increase of,polymer concentration, crosslinker concentration, salinity,p H(5.5-8.5).The formulated amphiphilic polymer gel in high, middle and low permeability, showed the plugging rate of 98.4%,97.7%and 93.2%with high breakthrough pressure respectively in the sand pack tubes. Therefore,it is concluded that amphiphilic polymer gel can be a better candidate for high salinity and high temperature reservoirs with low syneresis.
