The Zhongjiagang site is located in Pingyao Town,Hangzhou City,Zhejiang Province. It is the main river running through the north and the south in the ancient city of Liangzhu.During the three-year excavation process from 2015 to 2017,archaeologists recovered a small amount of human remains from the site.By applying the physical anthropological methods to identify the sex and age,to observe the pathological condition,to measure the cranial morphology, this research illustrated the human remains of the Zhongjiagang site from the perspectives of paleodemography, paleopathology, and cranial morphology, further clarifying the demographic structure, nutritional condition, living environment, ethnic type, etc. This dissertation is divided into 8 chapters, the contents of each chapter are as follows:Chapter 1: Introduction. This chapter introduces the geography and humanities of the Yuhang area where the Zhongjiagang site is located, the archaeological background of the Zhongjiagang site and the unearthed human remains, and expounds the research purpose and significance of this research.Chapter 2: Study on the number of individuals at Zhongjiagang neolithic site in Liangzhu. This chapter introduces the concept of the minimum number of individuals and the most probable number of individuals.According to the characteristics of human remains unearthed from the Zhongjiagang site, the minimum number of individuals is selected to estimate the number of this population.Chapter 3: Study on the sex and age of death of the ancient residents of Zhongjiagang neolithic site in Liangzhu. This chapter introduces the relevant methods of sex and age identification.Using these methods, the sex ratio and death age of human remains from the Zhongjiagang site are counted, and the results are compared and analyzed with the death age of the relevant populations.Chapter 4: Paleopathological research on the ancient residents of Zhongjiagang neolithic site in Liangzhu. This chapter describes the pathological changes and developmental abnormalities in the human bone materials at the Zhongjiagang site, such as skeletal trauma such as fractures, cutting marks, bone lesions such as supernumerary joints, benign tumors,as well as dental caries and root apical abscesses, periodontal disease and other dental diseases.Chapter 5: Study on the cranial morphology of the ancient residents of Zhongjiagang neolithic site in Liangzhu. This chapter focus on the non-measurable morphological characteristics and measurable morphological characteristics of the relatively intact skulls from the Zhongjiagang site, and obtain a preliminary understanding of the physical characteristics of the ancient residents of the Zhongjiagang site.Chapter 6: Multivariate statistical analysis of the ethnic types of the ancient residents of Zhongjiagang neolithic site in Liangzhu.Based on the craniofacial measurement data proposed in the previous chapter, this chapter discusses the distance relationship between the ancient residents of the Zhongjiagang site and the relevant comparitive populations through Euclidean distance, cluster analysis and principal component analysis and other statistical methods to clarify the ethnic type of population to which it belongs.Chapter 7: Conclusion. This chapter summarizes the content of the full text and extracts the basic points in each chapter.
