It can provide a basis for species identification of mosses, propagation and cultivation methods, landscape application and other research by investigation of bryophytes, especially moss resources. There were investigation on moss resources many times in main area both in the peripheral areas of Guangzhouin, altitude below 100 m,includes Nanping village,Hot Spring Scenic Spot and Liuxi River Park from Conghua District and others,in Wuyi Mountain scenic area, altitude between 200 and 260 m,includes Dahongpao Scenic Area,Wuyi Palace,Shangmei Township and Yandun Village of Jianyang District. It was recorded during the investigation with detailed information, including time and place, longitude and latitude, altitude, habitat characteristics, etc. It were simply identified and sorted for the moss specimens collected out in the same day, then cultivated in the campus. The these mosses was observed and identified with the help of reference books such as "Bryophyta of China".According to preliminary statistics, there are 28 species of mosses belonging to 23 genera and 15 families in the surrounding areas of Guangzhou, these families as below,Hypnaceae,Thuidiaceae,Bryaceae,Brachytheciaceae,Pottiaceae,Mniaceae,Polytrichacea,Sematophyllaceae,Entodontaceae,Fissidentaceae,Anomodontaceae,Leucobryaceae,Racopilaceae,Ditrichaceae and Funariaceae.Dominant families of mosses in this region are the first Hypnaceae, accounts for 26.09% of the total genera and 25.00% of the total species respectively, the second Thuidiaceae, accounts for 13.04% of the total genera and 10.71% of the total species respectively, then followed by Bryaceae and Brachytheciaceae, accounts for8.70 of the total genera and 7.14% of the total species respectively. There are above 21 species of mosses belonging to 13 families in Wuyi Mountain scenic area, these families as below,Brachytheciaceae,Hypnaceae,Entodontaceae,Polytrichaceae,Dicranaceae,Fissidentaceae,Mniaceae,Thuidiaceae,Rhizogoniaceae,Amblystegiaceae,Grimmiaceae,Bryaceae and Leucobryaceae,Dominant families of mosses in this region are Brachytheciaceae and Hypnaceae, both have three species respectively.According to the relationship between moss with water and with light intensity, moss resources can be roughly divided into three categories.Type first, lived in a hidden and humid environment,to be representative as Plagiomnium acutum and Plagiomnium vesicatum.Type second, can tolerate drought and light environment,to be representative as Hypnum plumaeforme,Thuidium glaucinum and Leucobryum juniperoideum.Type three, lived between the two former environment,to be representative as Taxiphyllum taxirameum,Entodon sp.and Eurhynchium sp.Many mosses of different species have very similar morphology, are difficult to distinguish by naked eyes,so it is necessary to identify and distinguish observed with a microscope for the morphological structure of each part of the leaf cells.Eighteen mosses of different species were identified. These characteristics, such as morphology, size and quantity distribution of the leaves and inner cells of theses mosses, were observed under the microscope, then were identified and classified according to the existing research data.It was concluded that Racopilum cuspidigerum,Brachytheclum helminthocladum,Brachythecium buchananii,Plagiomnium vesicatum,Plagiomnium acutum,Climacium dendroides and Barbula unguiculata,Bryum coronatum,Pogonatum inflexum,Atrichum rhystophyllum,Vesicularia montagnei,Hypopterygium japonicum,Fissidens nobilis,Fissidens taxifolius,Fissidens dubius, were consistent with the original identification accorded with the characteristics of Bryophyta in China respectively, while Thuidium lejeuneoides and Chaopodlum rugulosifolium were not accord with the relevant characteristics of Bryophyta in China, should be identified as Thuidium pristocalyx and Leplocludium sinense respectively. The moss from Wenshan of Yunnan, can be identified as Fissidens dubius.
