Abstract/Summary:
In this thesis, the reverse link inter-cell interference of a DS-CDMA (direct sequence code division multiple access) cellular network is probabilistically characterized. The reverse link is modeled as an M/M/m/m queue with a varying number of servers, whereas the number of servers symbolizes the maximum number of mobile terminals that a cell can support (cell capacity). The cell capacity can then be viewed as a random variable. Based on the queueing model and the probabilistic characterization of inter-cell interference, an iterative procedure is introduced to obtain the p.d.f. of the cell capacity and the p.d.f. of the number of mobile terminals transmitting to the cell under a given traffic load. In addition, the blocking probability in the cell and the p.d.f. of the excess capacity in the cell (cell capacity minus the number of mobile terminals transmitting to the cell) are found. The results are verified by simulation. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)...
