Abstract/Summary:
Asian older adults with dementia are expected to increase substantially, and Asian family caregivers will face many challenges and barriers such as language incompetency with healthcare providers and excessive caregiving duties that can affect caregivers' overall well-being. The purpose of this project was to develop and write a grant proposal to fund a psycho-educational stress reduction program for Chinese caregivers who provide care to aging parents diagnosed with dementia at the Chinese Foundation for Education organization. The proposed program entitled Care Village will focus on Mandarin and Cantonese speaking Chinese caregivers residing in the San Gabriel Valley. The goal of the program is to increase Chinese caregivers' ability to cope with caregiving stress and burden. The needs of the psycho-educational stress reduction program were identified through a review of relevant research. Submission of the grant proposal and successful obtainment of funding were not required for completion of this thesis project.
