In an attempt to dissect the signaling pathways involved in transmitting activating signals from the cell surface to the nucleus, the studies described in this thesis examine the regulation of post-translational modifications of the transcription factors c-fos and c-jun in response to signaling pathways. c-fos and c-jun were expressed using the baculovirus/Sf9 insect cell expression system and their DNA-binding and transcription activation abilities characterized in vitro. Results demonstrated that c-fos augments the AP-1-site dependent DNA-binding and transcriptional activation activities of c-jun. In order to examine the regulation of the modifications of c-fos and c-jun, different combinations of the critical signaling proteins the pp60... |
