Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this project was to design a comprehensive mentoring program, identify potential funding sources, and write a grant to fund a mentoring program. This program targets Latino foster youth in the area of Boyle Heights. The mentoring program was designed to improve academic performance, and to encourage healthy social, emotional, and behavioral development. The literature review provides an extensive overview of Latino youth involved within the child welfare system. Specific areas of review were the current prevalence in foster care, risk factors, protective factors, and mentoring programs. Various mentoring programs were explored and outlined for best practices in the planning and design of the grant proposal.
