Abstract/Summary:
Design of impedance matching circuits (IMC) is one of the important topics in microwave engineering. As new applications emerge that utilize multiple frequencies for their operations, impedance matching at multiple frequencies becomes a necessity. In the literature, many transmission line geometries have been presented for multi-frequency impedance matching, however, a comparative analysis of these geometries is not available.;In this research, comparative analyses of various geometries of impedance matching circuits for both 2 frequencies and 3 frequencies are performed. Some statistical analyses to compare the performances of these geometries are presented in order to find which geometry of an IMC gives a designer more designing options. These analyses reveal that it is possible for the IMC geometries mainly based on multiple stubs to give circuit designers a large number of solutions to choose from in order to meet their performance specifications.;Many multi-frequency IMC system equations are non-linear in nature, thus it is not possible to develop analytical system equations for these circuits. Therefore, in this thesis, a design procedure that is based on optimization is presented, instead of deriving and using analytical system equations.
