Abstract/Summary:
Internship programs can create a win-win-win scenario for construction companies, college students in construction-related majors, and construction academic programs. This research explores the implementation of internship programs in the Chinese construction industry and investigates Chinese construction companies' perceptions of internship programs and expectations of interns by distributing a survey to 200 of the top Chinese general contractors. This research also introduces the best internship practices and guidelines regarding selection process, orientation, training, compensation, mentorship, job duties, performance evaluation, and internship terms. This information is helpful for Chinese construction companies, assisting those companies in building a more effective and successful internship program. In addition, this research provides students with new insights into company demands and expectations for interns, which will help students when seeking internship opportunities and during their internships.
