| This research was performed to understand nursing students' feelings toward their program, the profession, and to compare their attitudes from the start to finish of the program. The assessment consisted of (1) a four year retrospective study of evaluation components and (2) a convenience sample of twenty-four nursing students.;The retrospective study found diet therapy was an area of concern for the program. Also, fifty percent of the students indicated both diet therapy and pathology/disease were areas needing improvement. Financial incentives were not found to be a significant motivator for students to enter the nursing profession. Also, the "best individual" was indicated as a better candidate for the nursing profession in comparison to the "best qualified.";This study found new ideas not specifically addressed in previous research related to the nursing shortage. The recommendations could make a difference within nursing programs, directly affecting the nursing shortage in the United States. |
