Abstract/Summary:
The use of computers in recent decades has grown exponentially and has lead to a tremendous diversification in computer applications. This, in turn, has produced a prodigious quantity of complex software.;When using complicated programs, which have numerous options and settings, the average user does not often know how to effectively use all of the options. The development of computer programs in which users interact with systems through an easy-to-use interface, have become increasingly challenging. One challenge is the development of Interfaces which will provide the user with a friendly interface that will automatically customize itself to better reflect the characteristics of the user. Another challenge is the development of Systems which are capable of fine-tuning the interfaces' information inquiries that will connect the user to their information needs more efficiently.;Various non-conventional techniques have been used to streamline this process, by applying intelligence to the interface and to the system. The expectation is that the user will have access to relevant information, consistent with the user's needs and requests, delivered in a timely manner. Very few investigators have integrated an intelligent interface with an intelligent system. This involves the coupling of an interface with the system and the evaluation of user satisfaction with the entire application.;This thesis presents a novel Methodology for the generation of Conversant Intelligent Interfaces with Intelligent Systems, together with their Coupling, and the evaluation of the User Satisfaction Feedback, to better accommodate the user and the user's needs. A dynamic online Internet portal customization is developed as a specific example of the proposed methodology.;The Intelligent Interface evaluates the often imprecise or ambiguous inputs of the user to allow the computer to appropriately characterize the user, as well as supplying a satisfying interface that reflects the characteristics and desires of the user. The Intelligent System seeks to categorize the near infinite number of websites available into specific categories, thus streamlining the seemingly endless search for relevant websites. A module for coupling Intelligent Interfaces with Intelligent Systems has been developed and described. This Coupling module matches the characteristics of the user to appropriate categories of web sites of interest. Finally, this system incorporates a user satisfaction survey, the Feedback module, which automatically feeds back data into each of the modules, the Intelligent System, Intelligent Interface, and their Coupling module, so that the system can adapt itself to better satisfy the individual needs of the user.;The application developed in this thesis research has been called DyMiz and presents innovations in user categorization, web search engines, portal customization, and web surveys.;While a specific application has been chosen for the implementation of this algorithm, the methodology has been designed to assist the development of diverse applications.
