As the discrete manufacturing production model has struggled to bring competitive advantages, how to respond to the changing era is a question for Chinese export manufacturing enterprises.Knowledge-Intensive Business Service(KIBS),as the knowledge creator and disseminator in the knowledge economy, greatly promotes the innovation of manufacturing enterprises.Given that the United States is imposing higher tariff to China, can KIBS act as a booster for the competitiveness of export companies? What is the mechanism of KIBS to influence the total factor productivity of export manufacturing enterprises? Based on the perspective of inter-industry relations, this paper focuses on the “dynamic efficiency gains” brought by KIBS to export manufacturing enterprises. In the theory section, the paper analyzed and illustrated the concepts and characteristics of the knowledge-intensive service industry, and elaborated the industrial interaction and synergy between the knowledge-intensive service industry and the manufacturing industry.Under the combined effect of specialization effect, technology spillover effect, and competitive effect, the knowledge-intensive service industry showed both positive and negative effects on the promotion of total factor productivity of export enterprises, showing a causal relationship with certain complexity. In the empirical section, the Chinese Industrial Enterprises Database and Chinese InputOutput Tables were combined to measure the inter-industry relations index between knowledge intensive business service and manufacturing industry.Using the 2000-2013 CASIF and Chinese Patent Database to empirically analyze the research focus and conducting the heterogeneity test from the aspects such as enterprise ownership and enterprise-scale.The study found that the level of inter-industrial association has a significant role in promoting the improvement of total factor productivity of export manufacturing enterprises.Further, the regression results showed that the improvement of the level of industrial association on the productivity of export enterprises has gradually reduced from east to west, which even showed inhibitory effect in the western region. In terms of factor density,KIBS has significantly increased the total factor productivity of capital and technology-intensive export enterprises but has insignificant effect on labor-intensive enterprises. The larger the scales of export enterprises were, the more significant the effect of inter-industry relations on their total factor productivity showed. The influences of T-KIBS and P-KIBS on export enterprises were different. The elevated effect of total factor productivity was more significant when the interindustry relations between P-KIBS and manufacturing industry were higher. On the contrary,T-KIBS showed inhibiting effect. The improvements of foreign-funded enterprises were more significant, while is less to state-owned enterprises. Therefore, this paper puts forward suggestions: First of all, promote the development of knowledge intensive business service, and gradually promote the interactive and integrated development of manufacturing and knowledge intensive business service in different regions according to local conditions. At same time, manufacturing export enterprises should improve their ability to acquire technical knowledge, which can help them achieve the efficiency absorption in joint production, and thus improve the total factor productivity of export enterprises with the help of knowledge intensive business service.
