With the constant changes in the global economic competition and international division system, many countries and regions are adjusting their strategies and seeking technological breakthroughs to cope with the fierce market competition.Importantly, maintaining technological advantage has become the commanding height of technological competition.Under the development model with foundry as the basic feature, the manufacturing industry in China has not brought technological upgrading through “market-for-technology” mode. This implies that under the global value chain division of labor system, the international foundry model based on the advantages of low-end production factors has obstacles in the process of technology upgrading, namely the technology lock-in effect. What important is that the technology locking nodes existing in each cooperation stage are the key constraints for enterprise technology breakthroughs and innovation upgrades under new product introduction(NPI)mode. It is critical to explore the cause of the lock and optimizing the unlocking state to achieving technology upgrade. Therefore, from the perspective of “lock inunlocking”,this thesis takes the foundry as the main research object, and explores what kind of locking state will be generated under the NPI cooperation mode with multinational corporations. Then theoretically analyzes the reason of the locking states.Combining with the game model, this thesis explores the process of mutual game between foundries and multinational companies in different NPI stages from the micro level, and analyzes the formation of lock-in effects, thus formulating strategies to unlock technology and achieving technology upgrades.First of all, this thesis introduces the definition of NPI mode and the process of new product development activities.Based on the theory of “knowledge transfer” and “knowledge spillover”,it describes the knowledge transfer process between foundries and multinational corporations under NPI mode, and constructs the upgrade and evolution model of foundries participating in the NPI cooperation with multinational corporations. Then,by analyzing the technological evolution process of foundries in the assembly phase, participation in the design phase and cooperative R&D phase under the NPI mode, three locking states, namely: “self-locking”,“other-locking” and “hysteretic lock”,are summarized from three levels, including internal, external and technical aspects, moreover, analyzes causes of these three locking states.Furthermore, combining with the three stages of NPI development, the game models of multinational corporations and foundries are established respectively, which reveal the essences of the production cooperation and technology development between multinational corporations and foundries at different stages. In the case, the optimal solution is obtained, and the model simulation is used to illustrate how the market product quality preference degree, knowledge spillover coefficient, design ability, innovation success rate and other factors affecting the foundies' income function.Through simulation, the strategy choices for implementing technology unlocking in foundry enterprises can be obtained. Finally, according to the conclusion of the model, the corresponding unlocking strategies are proposed for the three locking states.
