The Research Of The Effects From Functional Division Of Cities On Manufacturing Productivity

As the implementing of the coordinated regional development and new urbanization strategies,cities gradually combine with each other firmly into urban agglomeration,giving up the fragmented development.Cities in the urban agglomeration with different factor endowments function differently.And this function division of cities can improve the urban agglomerations' productivity.Manufacturing is the mainstay of national economy.It's the foundation of development and the key to national prosperity.Discussion on the relationship between function division of cities and Manufacturing productivity is of great benefit to forming function division of cities.It also promotes the realization of the strategy Made in China 2025.The Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration is both the pioneer of reform and opening and the main body of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.So research on this subject is of useful reference and provides theoretical basis for its transformation development.Based on theory of comparative advantage,theory of specialization,theory of diversification and theory of spatial spillover,this paper sorts out how functional division of cities improves the manufacturing productivity.And we have a further discussion on the impacts on this improvement,such as industrial carrying capacity,sustainable development,industrial cooperation,regional integration and government intervention.By setting up an index,this paper describes the structure and history of functional division of cities in the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration from 2004 to 2016.By using series of index,descriptive statistics and comparative analysis are utilized to understand the economic development of each city.This paper uses city data to empirically test the effect on manufacturing productivity from functional division of cities in the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration.We also test how these factors affect the improvement effect.Further more,this paper discusses the question above in different kinds of functional division of cities,which is established by specifying the manufacturing industry and producer services industry.Base on the theories and the empirical testing,we draw the following conclusions: functional division of cities can improve manufacturing productivity.And this effect is weaker in the structure of traditional producer services industry with high-tech manufacturing industry.Different kinds of functional division of cities can be affected by the factors differently.In order to improve the manufacturing productivity by functional division of cities,industrial policy should be suitable locally.
