The question of free will of artificial intelligence is actually a question of whether artificial intelligence may have free will. The research trend of Agent or intelligent agent in contemporary artificial intelligence research is to try to build "free will" for artificial intelligence from the theoretical and engineering level. As can be seen in the conception of the most typical DBI intelligent agent model, artificial intelligence seems to be able to be based on Independent states of mind generate their own goals and intentions for action and ultimately act.But the big question here is: Can artificial intelligence based on digital computers really produce mental states? Searle's "Chinese House Argument" theoretically denies this possibility, because digital computers defined by grammar do not have semantic content, and the generation of mental states is based on semantic content.Even if the possibility of mental construction is not denied, digital computer-based artificial intelligence still lacks the state of mind, which is autonomous, active,or related to intentionality of foreign objects. This has led to artificial intelligence's goal generation and choice.Decisions are made by the designer, which means that its decision-making process is still controlled rather than autonomous. With regard to human mental phenomena such as mental state, intentionality, and even free will, many contemporary researchers have tried to explore their mysteries from the human brain. On this basis, some biologicalist reductionists claim that mental states,Intentionality and even free will are reduced to neurophysiological processes in the brain. They try to create a bionic material basis for artificial intelligence in order to give artificial intelligence a mental state, intentionality and even free will. But this attempt does not work at least today, not only because of the high complexity of the human brain's structure and functional activities, but also because special human mental phenomena like free will cannot be objectiveized and simply restored.Behind the "self-determination" action exhibited by contemporary artificial intelligence,we can see that this "self-determination" action has a large similarity with human's action based on free will, and this similarity lies in the autonomous decision of action. However, the real human autonomous decision is actually an autonomous decision that resists external coercion or control.Through the analysis of the "self-determination" action of artificial intelligence,we find that although artificial intelligence seems to be able to be based on its own internal state and environmental impact in a variety of possible scenarios without external human intervention or manipulation.Perceives an action target "autonomously",but the action target it chooses is still essentially specified by the relevant designer in advance, and the true autonomous decision is made based on its own internal goals without external coercion Self-determination.This means that as long as artificial intelligence is still controlled by humans, regardless of whether artificial intelligence has human-like characteristics,it is not a real subject, but an artificially set subject. As an artificially set subject, artificial intelligence is Without free will.
