As the number of chip cores continues to increase and the demand for computing power grows dramatically,reliability and power consumption have become the two main challenges in network-on-chip design.In addition,due to the continuous increase of network interconnection scale,network-on-chip devices will inevitably be affected by aging effects that would degrade system performance.Focusing on the aging-induced reliability and power consumption issues in network-on-chip devices,this paper proposes an aging-aware routing algorithm as well as an energy-efficient router architecture design,for the purpose of achieve energy efficiency and ensuring system reliability.In this paper,an aging-aware routing optimization model is established by incorporating negative bias temperature instability into the optimization procedure.Then,an aging-aware routing algorithm is designed based on the search strategy of ant colony algorithm.By setting the aging factor,the routing algorithm can avoid certain nodes with severe aging on the routing path,and therefore minimizes system routing energy consumption and improves system reliability.Furthermore,we propose a new router micro-architecture that implements a virtual collision in router buffer,so that a portion of data requests can be eliminated through the virtual collision array before entering the routing pipeline,in order to reduce the data transmission volume and reduce the routing energy consumption.Experimental results show that,compared with the traditional XY routing algorithm,the proposed aging-aware routing algorithm based on ant colony algorithm can effectively improve the overall reliability of the system,while minimizing the energy consumption caused by avoiding aged nodes.In addition,compared with the traditional router architecture,the proposed router architecture can significantly reduce the energy consumption of data transmission,and can further improve the overall energy efficiency of the network-on-chip from micro-architecture perspective.The aging-aware routing algorithm based on ant colony algorithm and the router architecture based on virtual collision array designed in this paper together form a high-reliability and energy-efficient network-on-chip routing solution,which is of great theoretical and practical significance for improving network-on-chip reliability and energy efficiency.
