In the era of "media",the media multitasking behavior of students has become increasingly prominent, which changes the vay of their reading.Students often"multitask" with media while learning. And most studies of media multitasking and reading have proved that media multitasking increases reading time and affects reading comprehension, resulting in shallow reading. This study aims to explore the relationship between media multitasking and reading, and to analyze the influence of different types of media multitasking on reading level. In the study,we investigate the current situation of college students' media multitasking, and take instant messaging as an example to explore the impact of different types of media multitasking on reading level.Instant message includes three types, namely on-task,off-task,no-task;reading levels includes shallow and deep reading levels. And the experiment explores the impact of instant message on reading levels, and including the reading time, the emotion in the reading process, and the focused attention in the reading process.Firstly,we make a questionnaire survey to investigate the status of college students' media multitasking and social media multitasking.Secondly,we explore the influence of media multitasking on College Students' reading level through laboratory experiments, and record the biofeedback signals of subjects by physiological measuring instrument, which objectively reflect the emotion and focused attention of subjects in real time.306 students participate in the media multitasking questionnaire survey,250 students participate in social media multitasking questionnaire survey,of which 64 students participate in laboratory experiments.Experiments use 3(different types of instant messaging:on/off/no)x3(different degree of difficulty reading materials)mixed design. The inter-group variables are reading materials of different difficulty levels;intra-group variables are different types of instant messages, and dependent variables include emotion, focused attention, reading time and readig level. The results show:(1)Learners have the greatest degree of multitasking in the use of social networking;learners switch 3 activities in the learning process. And the most frequently media multitasking is using social media and listening to music.(2)Students' social media multitasking is often accompanied by social use for non-learning purposes in the learning process, which often disrupts learning.(3)The influence of media multitasking on reading time is different because of the difficulty of reading materials. For simple reading materials, the reading time is the shortest in the off-task environment;and for slightly difficult reading materials, the reading time is the shortest in the on-task environment.(4)Replying off-task type of instant message can arouse emotion.(5)In the environment of on-task,off-task,and no-task,the focused attention in the reading process is decreased.(6)The influence of media multitasking on reading level is different because of the difficulty of reading materials. The reading materials are too simple or too difficult, the media multitasking in the process of reading(on-task or off-task)is not conducive to reading comprehension, and more in-depth understanding of the reading materials is in the no-task environment. And reading materials for medium difficulty,on-task type of media mnltitasking is conducive to deep reading.(7)The influencing factor o f shallow reading level is mainly the emotion of reading processing, and the uinfluencing factors of deep reading level are the focused attention during reading and the reading time.
