This essay mainly discusses about the prefaces and postscripts of poetry and prose collections in Shanghai area during Ming Dynasty.As a type of writing,preface and postscript has a great significance on both level of historical value and literary value.Major elements of a preface and postscript are as follows: a biography of the editor who edited such collection;comments on the editor and his collection from the author of this preface and postscript;as well as collation status,publication status and circulation status of the poetry and prose collection et cetra.This essay is willing to reveal the literary style and regional feature of Shanghai area in Ming Dynasty by collating and interpreting prefaces and postscripts during this period.Apart from introduction and conclusion,this essay is divided into four parts.The introduction proposes the research significance and research route of this essay after introducing the current research status of prefaces and postscripts of Ming poetry and prose collections,as well as concluding research results of previous scholars.The first chapter discusses literati in Ming Dynasty and their works from three different living attitudes: to enter the official career actively;to live a sequestered life;and to wander between previous two living status.The second chapter investigates Ming Dynasty family groups mentioned in the prefaces and postscripts of poetry and prose collections,discusses about impacts on creation of such collection based on academic atmosphere of the First Families in Shanghai area at that time.The third chapter targets on relevant research about prefaces and postscripts,analyses the association status of literati from Shanghai area to the whole nation in Ming Dynasty.The last chapter digs into several important information about Ming poetry and prose collections including publishing edition,editing and publishing year and preservation condition based on the preface and postscript itself.In the end,on the development of the above research results,the conclusion part summarizes the unique feature of prefaces and postscripts written by Ming literati.An appendix is attached at the end of this essay,which is data integration about prefaces and postscripts of poetry and prose collections in Shanghai area during Ming Dynasty.The quantity of editors with their poetry and prose collections handed down is 226,however their collections were dispersed around the nation,with limited energy the author was only able to collate 200 prefaces and postscripts from over 60 editors mentioned above.Based on collating these prefaces and postscripts,this essay earns a glimpse of Ming literati style in Shanghai area and dissemination status of their poetry and prose collections with textual research method,interpreting such prefaces and postscripts on the basis of document accumulation,in the hope of fulfilling literary study results of Ming Shanghai area.
