Looking through the herbal books, many doctors have a record of the different effects of different doses of the same Chinese medicine. For example,"Compendium of Materia Medica"records:"Red flowers, more use of breaking blood, less use of nourishing blood."Another example,"With the Materia Medica" in the description of Pueraria:"less use, treat thirst.Multi-use,release fever" This is the expression of the dose-effect relationship of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners. In recent years,Chinese medicine practitioners have also made a lot of attempts and explorations on the study of the dose-effect relationship of traditional Chinese medicines. However, the unified understanding of the dose-effect relationship of traditional Chinese medicines has not yet been formed, and the modern research of traditional Chinese medicines often uses the dose-effect research paradigm of western medicines. The dose-effect relationship of western medicine means that the efficacy of the medicine is unchanged, but it can be increased or decreased with the change of blood concentration.Comparing the two types of dose-effect relationship,it can be found that the dose-effect relationship stated by ancient physicians is not positively related to the drug effect and the blood drug concentration, which may contain some dose-effect relationship of traditional Chinese medicine with TCM theory characteristics. The use of modern Chinese medicine is less involved. Therefore,we can’t help but wonder,in the rich literature of ancient Chinese medicine, what are the descriptions of the dose-effect relationship of traditional Chinese medicines like red blue and puerarin? Can these related descriptions reveal the general rule of the dose-effect relationship of traditional Chinese medicine in ancient doctors? How did ancient medical doctors discover the discovery of this unique Chinese medicine dose-effect relationship? In this study, the dose-effect relationship of the change in efficacy due to dose change is called the dose-effect relationship of traditional Chinese medicine. After preliminary retrieval of Chinese medicines with such dose-effect relationship,it has been found that the emergence and disappearance of the characteristic dose-effect relationship of traditional Chinese medicine has a certain time rule. Some functions that were regarded as "side effects" in the early stage have changed in the Yuan and Ming dynasties. The "side effects" are transformed into therapeutic effects and applied to the clinic. The doctors describe the dose-effect relationship of these drugs. In the middle of the 19th century, after the introduction of Western medicine into China, the research and expression of the dose-effect relationship of traditional Chinese medicines changed.Modern medical workers conduct relevant dose-effect relationship research through experiments, and introduce modern medical vocabulary into the expression of the dose-effect relationship of traditional Chinese medicine. But this kind of research is completely different from the way ancient doctors think. In order to further discover the understanding process of ancient Chinese doctors for traditional Chinese medicines with such characteristic dose-effect relationship, this study first collects Chinese medicines with such dose-effect relationship, and then combs them one by one. After consulting ancient medical books,it can be found that when ancient medical doctors describe the dose-effect relationship of such traditional Chinese medicines, the way the doctors can be expressed can be roughly classified into two categories:one is direct expression, for example:"Compendium of Materia Medica" records:"red flowers,multi-purpose breaking the blood and using less nourishing blood."The dose-effect relationship of the traditional Chinese medicine described in this sentence directly conforms to the original "quantitative effect" theory of "Chinese medicine X multi-purpose is efficacy A,less use is efficacy B";Traditional Chinese medicines with such dose-effect relationships are directly applied to the clinical, and are not clearly stated. For example,in the "Treatise on Cold pathogenic and Miscellaneous Diseases",Guizhi’s three or two are for the cold, and the five and two are used for lowering. In this study, the "Treatise on Cold pathogenic and Miscellaneous Diseases" was the representative of the ancient doctors’ clinical experience.Through collecting and sorting the traditional Chinese medicines with the characteristic dose-effect relationship in the past and the "Treatise on Cold pathogenic and Miscellaneous Diseases ",a total of 15 Chinese medicines were collected.Through the combing of the ancient literature on the 15 Chinese medicines one by one,it was found that for some drugs, the ancient doctors expressed the characteristic dose-effect relationship of some drugs by summarizing the experience of the previous doctors. However, with regard to such traditional Chinese medicines with characteristic dose-effect relationships, doctors of previous generations have discussed the causes of their treatment,or directly applied to the clinic. However,it is less involved in analyzing the causes of different effects caused by different doses,as well as the cognitive process of ancient Chinese doctors about the dose-effect relationship of this traditional Chinese medicine.By analyzing the basic effects of these 15 traditional Chinese medicines on the human body,it is found that the cause of the dose-effect relationship of this traditional Chinese medicine is closely related to the physiological and pathological mechanism of human blood.Taking the different effects of drugs on human qi and blood,15 kinds of traditional Chinese medicines are divided into three categories, with metaphor as a tool and analysis by category. With the help of metaphor analysis tool, the doctor’s theory about human qi and blood is regarded as the target domain S,and the corresponding source domain P is searched.Through analogy and mapping, the formation of TCM theory and the doctor’s understanding of nature and itself are discovered.Phenomena and experience are closely related. The dose-effect relationship of traditional Chinese medicines due to the change of dose caused by the dose change is based on the understanding of ancient Chinese doctors on the theory of Chinese medicine and blood, and based on the experience of "quantity",combined with clinical practice, gradually developed and summarized. The application of the characteristic dose-effect relationship of traditional Chinese medicine is the embodiment of the traditional Chinese medicine theory of "taking the period of peace" and "treating the disease and seeking the basics",and the formation of these two ideas is closely related to ancient Chinese philosophyFrom the existing research,it seems that the traditional Chinese medicine with the characteristic dose-effect relationship of traditional Chinese medicine still takes its basic role when changing the dosage, but the degree of disease treated is different.Due to the particularity of TCM theory, the same basic pathogenesis, the degree of disease is different, and its clinical performance may be quite different. Then,if other drugs that have similar effects on blood and blood can be analogized, changing the dose will have similar effects.During the research,it was found that the doctor’s statement about the different compatibility of drugs was expressed at the same time as the characteristic dose-effect relationship. But the doctor did not explain why it was so compatible, and whether such compatibility had an effect on the dose-effect relationship of the drug,In addition, the modern research of traditional Chinese medicine has been following the dose-effect research paradigm of western medicine. Can this dose-effect research paradigm meet the needs of guiding the clinical use of traditional Chinese medicine? What role can the western medicine’s dose-effect research paradigm play in modern Chinese medicine clinical research? These are all subject to further research. However,it is worth pointing out that the characteristic dose-effect relationship of traditional Chinese medicine is part of the theory of traditional Chinese medicine. Therefore,in order to carry out research on the relationship between dose and effect of traditional Chinese medicine,we should first think about how Chinese medicine theory is constructed, and then seek breakthroughs in research methods. The theory of dose-effect relationship of traditional Chinese medicine established by this method can be further applied to discover the therapeutic effect of the unknown dosage of traditional Chinese medicine, and combined with modern medical technology to verify and better serve the clinical. Moreover,in the long run,the establishment of the theory of dose-effect relationship of traditional Chinese medicine with TCM theory has a positive effect on the exploration of TCM theory.
