The Relationship Between Self-compassion, Mental Flexibility And Depression In Male Drug Addicts And Intervention Research

This study focuses on the effects of self-compassion(SC)and psychological flexibility(PF)on depression among the drug addicts,explores the mechanism of psychological flexibility between self-compassion and depression.Furthermore,on the basis of previous studies and the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Theory,a set of group intervention program for improving the level of mental health was designed and assessed.The research has collected 540 valid questionnaires by clustering sampling from compulsory isolation detoxification Institutes in Yancheng and Nanjing City.Those questionnaires contain demographic variables,Psychological Flexibility Scale consists of CFQ and AAQ-II.Self-compassion Scale(SCS),Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale(CES-D).At first,Descriptive statistics were used in investigating the level of self-compassion,Psychological Flexibility and depression among the drug addicts.As a result,the drug addicts depression level(21.59 + 9.93)were higher than the national normal population norm(13.24 + 10.33);Single factor variance analysis showed that the level of SC had significant differences in education(p<0.001)and the level of depression varied with time(p<0.001).Secondly,this paper not only discusses the relationship among Self-compassion,Psychological Flexibility and depression,but also the mediating effect of PF between SC and depression(r=-0.404;r=-0.408,r=0.531,p<0.01),then established a structural equation model diagram with good fitting index(X2/df=1.794,RMSEA=0.038,CFI=0.996,NFI=0.992,GFI=0.992)for subsequent intervention studies.Finally,the study designed a set of group intervention program according to the precious model and ACT theory and recruited 16 members in a voluntary manner,divided 8 of those people into intervention group and control group.The control group finished 8 weeks intervention,while control group didn’t take any action.Finally,the comparative analysis and effect evaluation were carried out.It found that the scores of depression and PF in the intervention group were significantly reduced(means the level of PF was improved).The above research draw the following conclusions,(1)The level of mental health in compulsory drug addicts is low,while depression level is generally higher than that of the national norm.(2)The SC has significant difference in the educational level variable,the more education was received,the higher SC is.(3)The PF plays a part mediating role between the SC and depression.(4)8 weeks group intervention can increase the PF and reduced the depression on some level.The set of group intervention progress has practicability and availability.
