Since widespread concern about the issue between smoking and health, reducing cigarette Tar has become an inevitable choice for the tobacco industry and the development of low Tar cigarettes has become an important subject of cigarette manufacturers. However, the aroma and taste of low Tar cigarettes are greatly cut down due to the reducing Tar technology.Great attention has been paid on a significant research direction which reducing aroma loss of cigarettes by increasing aroma. So it is particularly important to have a fully understanding of the composition and properties of aroma components, which will make the aroma-increasing operation available to keep the taste of low Tar cigarettes.Thereby, analysis and study of aroma components in mainstream smoke comes to be very important.A lot of work has been done to detect the aroma components of cigarette mainstream smoke in this paper.Firstly,a suitable pretreatment method was developed to obtain more aroma components from cigarette mainstream smoke.Secondly,a platform based on supercritical fluid chromatography(SFC)and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC/MS)was developed for detecting aroma components of cigarette mainstream smoke, and this platform increased chromatographic column capacity of GC/MS.Then,the aroma components of domestic and foreign cigarette samples were detected by this method, and differences were obtained by comparison of the results of domestic cigarette samples and foreign cigarette samples. The main research results are as follows:(1)The related factors of simultaneous distillation extraction(SDE)and supercritical fluid extraction(SFE)were optimized for extracting aroma components from cigarette mainstream smoke. The best extraction conditions of SDE are as follows:the extraction time was 3 h,the dosage of extraction solvent was 50 mL,the dosage of pure water was 350 mL.The best extraction conditions of SFE are as follows:extraction temperature was 55 ? extraction pressure was 360 bar, dynamic extraction time was 55 min, flow rate of modifier(ethanol)was 0.1 mL/min.94 kinds of aroma components were detected based on SDE and 118 kinds of aroma components were detected based on SFE.Therefore,SFE was better than SDE,and SFE was employed as the pretreatment method for following experiments.(2)The related factors of Supercritical Fluid Chromatography(SFC)were optimized for separating the component of extraction. The best working conditions of Supercritical Fluid Chromatography are as follows:UV-Vis detector wavelength was 210 nm,the total flow rate was 30 mL/min,the modifier was methanol(10%),back pressure was 100 bar.The results showed that 96 kinds of aroma compounds were identified without SFC separation, and 186 kinds of aroma compounds were determined using the developed method. It was suggested that this developed method was better than without SFC.Therefore,a novel method, based on SFC-GC-MS,was developed for assay the aroma components of mainstream cigarette smoke.(3)Different brands of domestic and foreign cigarette samples were analyzed by SFC-GC-MS method. As the results shown, the aroma components and flavoring style were different between domestic and foreign cigarette samples. And the results provide a reference for improving cigarette aroma and taste.
