Scientific discovery is the most important content in scientific activities.It is the driving force behind the development of science,especially the introduction of major scientific discoveries,just like a “seed” that triggers the revolution in a research field or even the whole discipline.This is the seed radiation effect of scientific discoveries.The exploration and analysis of the scientific discovery,especially the seed radiation effects of major scientific discoveries,can reveal the process and laws of scientific production and communication activities,and have important value for innovation activities,scientific research output evaluation and scientific research policy formulation.At present,there is still a lack of research on the seed radiation effect of scientific discovery,which mainly focuses on the field of science of science with qualitative research and the field of scientometrics with quantitative research.Based on the existing research,this paper takes the discovery of graphene as a scientific seed,constructs a network based on the knowledge interaction between scientific literatures,and reveals the seed radiation effects of scientific discovery through qualitative and quantitative research methods.The specific research work is as follows:(1)At the theoretical level,based on scientific discovery,knowledge flow and knowledge evolution,literature-related network theory and existing research,the related concepts of seed radiation effects,such as knowledge subject,knowledge object,knowledge radiation,seed literature and seed author,are defined.According to the two basic ways of knowledge radiation--collaboration and citation,the knowledge radiation object,radiation expression form and basic research ideas are analyzed respectively.On this basis,the analysis framework of seed radiation effects based on the literature association network is constructed.(2)At the empirical level,guided by the analytical framework,the seed radiation effects in the graphene field are specifically studied from the perspectives of subject cooperation and knowledge evolution.The research of the subject cooperation perspective discusses the influence of seed authors on the research output of other authors and the network structure of collaboration networks from with collaboration of seed authors and the stage of collaboration.The research shows that cooperative follow-up with seed authors is more powerful than non-cooperative follow-up,the seed authors in the graphene field have the driving effect and the strongest effect in the growth period.The perspective of knowledge evolution is the use of citation network structure,citation knowledge distribution,citation content to analyze the radiation influence,radiation theme and radiation effects.The research shows that the seed literature in graphene field has an important impact on the basic knowledge and bridging knowledge.The seed literature drives and initiates the development and progress of the field through the path of “scientific discovery-technology research and development-industrial application”,and with the continuous development of the graphene field,its radiation effect becomes weak.(3)At the application level,the research results are applied at the core of research conclusions and research ideas.According to the research conclusions of this paper,two suggestions are proposed for academic researchers and scientific research policy makers: it is recommended that researchers follow up on major scientific discoveries and research teams to seize competitive advantage;the policy layout of graphene in China should be differentiated.The analysis framework and research ideas provided in this paper can be used to evaluate researchers,combing the domain knowledge structure and evolutionary context,and used for knowledge radiation research in other scientific fields.
