Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM)and multi-input multi-output(MIMO)technology are widely used in cellular mobile communications,local access network and other wireless communication networks.In the coming era of 5G and the future mobile wireless communication scenarios,various types of service for various applications and transportation puts forward more stringent requirements for wireless access networks.Based on OFDM and MIMO techniques,modulation index(IM)technology delivers information through the additional index components,such as those of subcarrier,time slot and antenna,etc.Current research shows that IM technology is capable of achieving better performance in PAPR,energy efficiency and resisting inter-carrier interference,and can get more performance gain with less media resource.This thesis aims to improve spectral efficiency(SE)of IM-based MIMO-OFDM system,through both modulation design and pilot design.Especially,the design of pilot and the detection method with low complexity for index modulation OFDM system as well as IM-based MIMO-OFDM system is presented.In order to solve the problem of low efficiency of index modulation OFDM,the existing waveform design of OFDM-IM with high spectrum efficiency is investigated.A new IM-OFDM scheme with layered index modulation is proposed which improve the spectrum efficiency,and the upper bound of uncode BER performance of proposed scheme is provided using union bound.Furthermore,the pilot configuration and channel estimation algorithm of OFDM-IM system are studied.In the case of single-layer OFDM-IM system,a high density pilot allocations scheme as well as a two-stage IM method with pilot index modulation are proposed,and the detection performance of the proposed structure is theoretically analyzed.In the case of multi-layer OFMD-IM system,a layered pilot allocation scheme and the corresponding signal recovery algorithm are proposed.Finally,the pilot configuration scheme and channel estimation algorithm of MIMO-OFDM-IM system is presented.To avoid the impact of pilot detection errors to the multi-antenna detection,the interference elimination and detection algorithm is further designed,in which the effectiveness and the superiority of the improved pilot configuration scheme and the receiver algorithm are verified by simulation.
