In recent years,with the vigorous development of the global maker movement,there is having a new wave of maker education which aims to cultivate innovative talents with innovative consciousness,innovative thinking and innovative ability.Public library is an important public cultural and social educational institution,and carrying out maker education is not only the innate need of constructing an open and innovative service system and strengthening the transformation of its own resources,but also an important way to meet the educational demand of different cultural levels,enhancing the public participation and realizing the ecological reconstruction.As the pioneer of carrying out maker education,American public library has rich practical experience in maker education,and its rapid development benefits from the driving of social educational development environment and maker cultural consciousness.American public library develops maker education through building high-quality maker education resources,adopting scientific way of maker education and constructing high-quality teaching staff,so it has a number of practical characteristics,such as wide coverage,diverse activities,abundant content,systematic planning and sustainable development.American public library has been developed into one of the major institutions that the United States implements maker education for ordinary people,and the cause of its success is that it pays much attention to interagency cooperation,normative development of education,implementation of embedded education,reflecting fairness of maker education,widening channel of financial sources of maker education.China's maker education is gradually rising along with the introduction of maker space,but the development of maker education in the field of public libraries is still relatively slow.The difference in the development environment of public library maker education between China and America is embodied from the perspective of the supportive agencies of governmental agencies and library association,overall development level of national maker education,equipment purchasing concept and so on.According to the problems existing in the practice of maker education of China's public library,and taking the successful experience of maker education of American public library for reference,it draws the conclusion that China should promote the development of public library maker education through strengthening joint education,standardizing educational development,paying attention to the construction of teaching staff,developin multi-subject maker education,creating maker education brand,focusing on social vulnerable groups,and broadening the channels of funding sources.
