Study On The Collection Development Policy Of British University Libraries

The collection development policy of British university libraries is a subject that has been neglected by scholars in the field of library collection development policy for many years,but the collection development policy of British university libraries itself has a long history and rich practical experience.This article chooses the British university libraries as the research object and the author investigates and analyzes the contents of 20 collection development policies of British university libraries,comparing these contents of library collection development policies and finding out some advantages and merits,in order to provide ideas for collection development policy of university libraries in our country.This paper is divided into five parts: The first part is the introduction,which mainly introduces the background and significance of the topic,the research status at home and abroad,the research content and research methods,and the innovation of this paper.The second part is about the basic theory research of library collection development policy,which includes three aspects: the concept analysis of collection development policy,the function of collection development policy and the basic content framework of collection development policy.The third part is the comparison of the collection development policy of the British university libraries.The main contents include the overview of the collection development policy of the 20 British university libraries,choosing the collection target and service object,the collection interview policy,the digital collection construction,the collection management policy,the collection resources to build and share five indicators to compare and analysis these collection development policy content of 20 British university libraries.The fourth part is the enlightenment of the collection development policy of the British university libraries.The above findings have some enlightenment on the formulation of collection development policy of the university libraries in our country.Firstly,we must clear the goal of collection development and formulate a scientific and reasonable collection development policy.Secondly,we should pay attention to the operability of collection development policy of university libraries;finally,we should give full play to the advantage of the characteristic collection resources to realize the co-construction and sharing of collection resources.The fifth part is the summary of the paper;the author summarizes the full text,points out the shortcomings and the improvement direction of this dissertation,and makes a prospect for the future research focus.
