Parenting Styles,Depression,and Internet Gaming Disorder In Adolescents

To explore the longitudinal relationship among parenting style,depression and internet gaming disorder among adolescents.Based on developmental contextualism,1100 junior middle school students were investigated with the simple Egma Minnen av Bardndosnauppforstran Questionnaire?Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale and Internet Gaming Disorder Questionnaire.The results show that:(1)There are significant gender and grade differences in internet gaming disorder,boys' internet gaming disorder level is higher than girls' students,the level of internet gaming disorder in the second semester of Grade 7 was significantly lower than that in the first semester of Grade 7 and the first semester of Grade 8;(2)There are significant gender differences in depression,girls' depression level is higher than boys' students,the level of depression in the first semester of Grade 7 is significantly lower than that in the second semester of Grade 7,and the level of depression in the second semester of Grade 7 is significantly lower than that in the first semester of Grade 8;(3)There are significant gender differences in parental care and parental control,boys have higher parental care and parental control than girls,there is no significant grade difference in parenting styles;(4)Developmental cascades models to better fit data than the unidirectional and bidirectional models;(5)Parental control and internet gaming disorder can predict each other through depression positively,parental control can positively predict the depression of adolescents,and then predict the internet gaming disorder of adolescents,in turn,the internet gaming disorder of adolescents can positively predict the level of depression,and then predict parental control.(6)Parental care and internet gaming disorder can predict each other through depression negatively,parental care can negatively predict adolescent depression,and then predict adolescent internet gaming disorder,in turn,adolescent internet gaming disorder can predict the level of depression,and then negatively predict parental control.The results confirm the cascades effect between parenting style,depression and internet gaming disorder among adolescents,and provide reference suggestions for the prevention and intervention of depression and internet gaming disorder in adolescents.
