This research thesis explores students' academic dishonesty in higher level education,we designed a quantitative study and collected data from enrolled university students from Islamabad, the capital city of Pakistan. For this thesis, data from students of seven public sector universities located in the Islamabad Federal capital city of Pakistan were collected.Islamabad,a federal capital of Pakistan, has 21 federal chartered universities and four out of seven universities which are ranked in QS universities world ranking are located in Islamabad city;therefore,Islamabad was chosen as the sample subject for research.Paper-based surveys were randomly distributed pro forma amongst 257 students and 181 samples were found to be useable. The collected quantitative data were analyzed and results derived using the IBM AMOS 24.0 statistical tool and applied Structural Equation Modelling(SEM)analysis technique. The relationship between variables were tested and verified on the basis of selected relevant theory from existing literature. The findings demonstrate that the self-competency,pressure,and pride have a significant impact on academic dishonesty. This thesis concludes, that some personal factors do in fact exist and that these factors drive students to engage in certain unethical practices, for instance, that of plagiarism. It was found that apart from poor training and lack of skills on the students' part has negative effects, the pride and the pressures they face as they engage in research practices have a positive effect on their intentions to exercise academic dishonesty. Therefore, the burden of combating unethical research practices in public sector universities is not only the duty of students themselves, but also the responsibility of public sector institutions to create an effective policies and also environment that would inhibit and hinder the emergence and growth of such vices.
