In recent years, with the rise of China's economic strength and people's living standards, more and more families have chosen overseas study,as a new choice for their children's education.According to the “China Study Abroad Development Trend Report 2017” released by China Education Online, the number of Chinese overseas students has shown a rapid upward trend in the past ten years. With the increase in the number,“Chinese overseas students” have gradually occupied a majority in the number and proportion of overseas Chinese.Even in some countries,Chinese overseas students account for the largest proportion of local Chinese community. As the international attention to China rises, the Chinese student community is also increasingly receiving attention from foreign media. The media image of Chinese students presented in international media reports will not only affect the perception and attitude of foreign audiences to Chinese students, but also have an important impact on foreigners' understanding of China and Chinese people. Therefore, studying the media image presented by Chinese students in international media reports and its differences are of great significance for guiding international students to correctly maintain their image and maintain China's national image in their school life. The study uses framing theory as the theoretical basis.According to UNESCO's statistics on the number of students studying in the world, the top 4 countries where Chinese students study in the past 10 years: United States,Australia, the United Kingdom, and Japan, were selected.591 news stories in 2017 in those countries are selected as the research objects,to compare the image of Chinese students in news reporting in different countries, and the differences in the news frameworks of different countries. It is found that in the international media reports,Chinese students mainly present the images of “cultural communicators integrated into the local society”,“victims of crimes”,“hard-working students” and “beneficiaries of policies”.Among them, the reports of the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia,as English-speaking countries, generally showed a relatively consistent reporting tendency,as they paid great attention to incidents of incidental international students;while Japan is more concerned about the life performance of international students. The image of international students and the reporting attitude of the media tend to be neutral in the reporting, which can be conducive to more realistically shaping the media image of Chinese students. However, problems such as the imbalance of the subject and role orientation, the lack of discourse power of the subject, and the gender differences are remaining in the report.Such a reporting framework is somewhat one-sided,and it is hard to make a comprehensive description of the current situation of all Chinese international students.
