Based on the evolutionary theory of devaluing internal groups based on threat management,if the internal groups devalued following the principle of functional flexibility, then under the protection of the threat of violence, the individual's degrading effect of the internal groups will be reduced. This study explores the impact of threat protection on the depreciating effects of internal groups on the basis of two psychological behavioral experiments in the smallest group paradigm, from group attitudes and group behavioral responses. In this study,a tactical stab-resistant vest with a weight of 2.5 kg but different styles was used to provide violence protection, and the group was divided into groups using the smallest group paradigm. As a result of the experiment, when participants scored the willingness to cooperate with members of the internal and external groups, the participants in the control group experienced a phenomenon of degrading the internal groups, while the subjects in the violence threat prevention group showed a phenomenon of preference within the group, which indicates the tactical As a control condition of the experiment, the stab-resistant vest makes the individual group degrading effect shown in the group attitude be significantly reduced, and even the preference effect of the inner group appears. In addition, the mediating effect of the degree of injury felt by the subjects was significant, and the participants' perception of the threat of outside violence(BDW scale score)had no significant effect. The results of experiment 2 showed that in the task of approaching-avoidance behavioral response, the control group exhibited internal group devaluations and the violence threat protection group exhibited internal group preference responses. In addition, the study of mediation and adjustment factors found that the self-protection motivation had no significant regulatory effect, but the self-protection motivation had a significant predictive effect on the depreciation of the internal groups. At the same time, the mediation effect of the degree of harm felt by the subjects was also significant.of.To sum up,the two experiments in this study confirm that the internal group devaluation mechanism follows the principle of functional flexibility from group attitude and inter-group behavior, and it is an adaptive psychological mechanism evolved. That is,threat protection against violence can reduce the degrading effect of internal groups and may even translate into internal group preference.
