The first pilots of the latest mode of entrance contamination in Shanghai and Zhejiang in 2014 marks a new round of comprehensive reform of the full deployment of the college entrance examination has been officially launched by top level of the state council. The biggest change of the new model is to abandon the traditional liberal arts and science system and adopt the “choose 3 out of 7 disciplines” or “3 out of 6”system,which means that student can choose alternatively three other disciplines as scoring disciplines apart from the Chinese, mathematics and foreign language, the three compulsory disciplines. So under the circumstance,it is urgent to know the problems and demand different disciplines face. The subjects of this study are fresh students from eight high schools of different level of Liwan District of Guangzhou. The study conducts a statistic analysis of the results from questionnaires and interviews of those students. And then the results are compared with the results of interviews conducted by teachers in some school of Shanghai and Zhejiang so as to master the tendency and reasons of choosing geography as an alternative discipline.Study analyzed factors that influence students to choose geography from three aspects: students themselves, geography, school, family and the society.Through case studies, study can get the changes that the new mode of entrance examination may bring for high school geography education.Based on the primary research data, this study may help teachers to strengthen teaching reform and guide administrators to allocate reasonably geographic teachers. It is also a reference for reform and implementation of some university programs that aim to train high school geographic teachers and professional geographic talents so that that this discipline can adapt to the changing situation more quickly. Conclusions of this thesis study are as follows.First: there will be a great demand for geography in the new college entrance examination mode, and theproportion of students choosing geography is obviously increased.Second: personal reasons(hobbies, talents, character, physical condition, academic foundation, development aspirations, etc.)are the primary factors affecting the students choice of geography.Third: school(school level, school discipline preference, teaching staff, etc.)are important factors affecting the students choice.Fourth: school and teachers should give more guidance to students in case they are choosing blindly and facing all kinds of problems. In the meantime, there appear some further questions worth our deep thinking: will the position of geography rise after the implementation of the new mode of entrance examination? What are influences of using the standardized scores to eliminate the problem of different scores in different disciplines? the possibility of high schools becoming technical schools with “distinctive characteristics”? Whether some related disciplines in colleges and universities can achieve a balanced development under the new entrance examination system?...
