Cao Minglun is a prominent translator and a scholar of translation studies in the mainland of China.Not only does he translate a lot of literary works,but also he publishes many articles about translation.So far,a large number of articles have discussed his translation works including poetic and fictional translation.However,these articles studying his translation of Just So Stories are much fewer than those studying his translation of poems and fictions.This thesis regards Cao Minglun's translation of Just So Stories as its research object.Descriptive method is used to describe his views on translation and analyze his translation methods of Just So Stories.The thesis will explore his translation views from two aspects.The first is about his preface of works,articles and interviews,and the other is his translation works.By collecting,analyzing and summarizing the materials about Cao Minglun's translation views,the present thesis is intended to sort out his translation views,as well as his translation methods in terms of linguistic aspects and cultural aspects.Just So Stories is a collection of short stories for children written by Rudyard Kipling in 1902.This book shows the author's excellent bilingual ability due to its profound language and humorous stories.Up to now,Just So Stories has been translated into several Chinese versions.Cao Minglun applies “the closest and most natural” principle in his translation to make his translation close to the original text as much as possible,as well as natural and fluent.By reading Cao Minglun' Chinese versions of Just So Stories,readers can get the same artistic charm as the original text in Cao Minglun's translation.The author tends to summarize Cao Minglun's translation views and analyze his translation methods of Just So Stories.Besides,the author hopes to find out the characteristics of his translation,which offers assistance to others' translation practice.
