Objective: With the improvement of medical treatment and living standard, the medical environment has become an important index to consider the comprehensive quality of hospital. The problem of hospital noise is becoming more and more prominent with the increase of patients. The noise pollution of pediatric is more serious, because the children in the pediatric are young, poor self-control,irritated,crying and accompanied during hospitalization. This study is divided into two parts. The first part is to measure the level of noise in different places in the pediatric ward and investigate the subjective perception of the noise to nurses in the pediatric wards. Finally,to understand comprehensively the current status of noise in pediatric wards. The second part is to conduct semi-structured interviews with pediatric nurses from different hospitals to clarify the adverse physical and mental effects of long-term noisy working environment on pediatric. And master the control of pediatric wards. In this paper,in accordance with the result of two part to improve the environment and reducing noise in pediatric ward. Methods: In the first part of the study, the pediatric wards of five tertiary first-class hospitals in Lanzhou were used as the research objects. The Xima AR844 noise statistical tester produced by Dongguan Wanchuang Electronic Products Co.,Ltd.was used for noise measurement. The measurement location is nurse stations, corridors, and wards in pediatric.Noise monitoring was conducted in each hospital for five days, and it was conducted in eight main time periods every day;and a self-made pediatric ward noise exposure status questionnaire was used to investigate the subjective perception of noise among pediatric nurses. Finally, the SPSS 24.0 software was used to analyze the obtained data, and the measurement data was expressed by ?± .The second part uses the phenomenological method in the qualitative research to conduct semi-structured in-depth interviews with 10 pediatric nurses in the above five hospitals, and uses Nvivo11.0 to organize and analyze the interview data obtained.Result: 1.The noise exposure in the pediatric ward is serious, and the equivalent sound pressure level(Leq)during the day is more than 60 d B(A),up to 71.37 ± 4.18 d B(A).d B(A),The lowest Leq in all areas of the night ward is 43.97 ± 3.77 d B(A),the highest is 56.18 ± 6.15 d B(A),the daytime noise is generally higher than nighttime. The noise in the pediatric wards of the five hospitals exceeded the relevant regulations of the World Health Organization(WHO).The maximum exceeded the standard by 103.91% during the day and 96.90% at the maximum during the night.2.It is found that the daytime nurse station is the most severe area, followed by the nurse station is facing the ward, and the rest of the wards are also affected by the noise, but the overall level is not as high as the wards that nurse station is facing.3.More than 90% of the nurses said that the noise in the pediatric ward seriously interfered them, and 73.39% of the nurses said that the hospital noise affected their work to a serious and high level, and nearly 50% of the nurses said that they were dissatisfied the sound environment of their department,of which the nurses in Hospital A have the strongest response and the lowest satisfaction;4.There are 70.96% of nurses consciously paid more attention to noise problems, and thought that the main noise sources in the ward were the crying sounds of children, the talking and walking sounds of patients’ families, and the sounds of instruments and equipment.5.The pediatric ward is deeply affected by noise pollution.Nurses who work in a noisy environment for a long time are prone to adverse physical effects such as hearing loss, tinnitus, auditory hearing, and are also prone to psychological effects such as irritability and numbness, which affects nurses work. These adverse physical and mental effects could make their work efficiency decrease and lead to work errors.6.Paediatric nurses pay little attention to the adverse physical and mental effects caused by noise, and generally lack knowledge of hospital noise control, and show insufficient confidence, incorrect behavior,or insufficient motivation in noise management.7.Hospital noise control must not only take into account the suggestions of architects and hospital managers, but also the recommendations for long-term user nurses.Nurses believe that restricting attendants, behavioral constraints, strengthening training, incorporating hospital noise management into the assessment, and improving space from a building perspective hard environment is conducive to the optimization of acoustic environment in pediatric ward. Conclusions: The noise problem in pediatric ward is prominent, the sound pressure level is at a high level, and it has many adverse physical and psychological effects on nurses. The results of the two parts of the study provide a reference for improving the acoustic environment of the pediatric ward and improving the health of nurses.
